2011 Event Overview:

On March 30, 2011, twenty-eight student teams from the Iowa City Area came together to compete for college scholarships using Junior Achievements business simulation program, JA Titan.  After 24 quarters of decision-making with the help of volunteer mentors, four students came away with college scholarships. Congratulations to 1st Place Winners, Erin Muir and Bobby Razavi from Iowa City High School, who each won $1,500 in post-secondary scholarship dollars. Second place and $750 in scholarship dollars went to Regina High School students, Emily Walsh and Morgan Juraco.

Thank you to all sponsors for supporting this event and to all participants and mentors who came out for the 1st annual JA Titan Challenge! See you next year!

What is the JA Titan Challenge?
Using Junior Achievement’s high school simulation program, JA Titan, the JA Titan Challenge is a day-long competition which places high school students in the CEO seat to help increase their understanding of business. Young entrepreneurs are taught in an engaging way about the nuances of running a global business in a competitive, high-tech marketplace. Student teams of 2 have complete control of managing and operating their own virtual business and making key decisions. Companies (teams) are challenged to outperform the competition in profit, sales, and market share.

2011 Testimonials
"I came into this competition not really knowing much about how to run a successful company and how to apply what we learned in economics to real life, and I feel like I left with a way better understanding. Our Mentor was extremely helpful, but still let us make decisions. Everyone here was extremely nice and helpful."
              - Emily Walsh, Regina High School, Iowa City

"I really had a great time and I learned a lot. I learned valuable things for next year and the future. Totally worth the missed school!"
              - Brendon Cullen, West High School, Iowa City

"It was a lot of fun and a competitive day. We had a fun mentor. It was a positive and friendly environment where we learned cool things about business."
              - Zach Mennen, City High School, Iowa City

"This was a very fun and educational experience. I would definitely participate again if I could. The competitive but friendly atmosphere was what made the day so exciting."
        - William Glotfelty, HLV Community High School, Victor
