Cedar Rapids
There are three great ways to get involved with Junior Achievements special events. You can be a day of event volunteer, participate in the event or join a committee to help plan the event. Below are a list of the events taking place throughout the year as well as brief descriptions for each event. Also, time commitments required of special event committee members are listed below.
 | Bowl-4-Education
This is our largest event where bowlers are entitled to three games of bowling after raising money for Junior Achievement prior to the event. The event also includes many great prizes that participants can receive and is always a lot of fun for everyone involved. The 2010 theme will be "GREEK Bowl-4-Education". | | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
 | Business Hall of Fame
The Junior Achievement East Central Iowa Business Hall of Fame honors outstanding business leaders who have experienced a lifetime of business success and established a legacy of leadership within their industries and community. Through the Laureates leadership, vision and innovation, they have influenced much of our communitys economic development and social welfare. (There is currently no special events committee in place for this event.) | | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
 | Taste of Spring (wine tasting and auction)
This annual event will return again in 2011! Taste of Spring will be held at Siebke Hoyt Jewelers & Galleria. At this event participants experience the excitement of bidding on live and silent auction items while enjoying wine tasting and sampling hor doeuvres. Prior to the event an online auction is available for bidding on additional auction packages. |

| | | Jeans-4-JA
Abandon your standard work attire and jump into your Jeans-4-JA! In celebration of National Junior Achievement Week, declared by President Eisenhower in 1955, Junior Achievement kicks off Jeans-4-JA during the first week in February each year, however, companies can participate at any time throughout the year. Employees of participating companies can wear jeans to work, with a donation to Junior Achievement. (There is currently no special events committee in place for this event.) | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | JA Titan Challenge
Using Junior Achievements high school simmulation program, JA Titan, the JA Titan Challenge is a day-long competition which places high school students in the CEO seat to help increase their understanding of business. Young entreprenuers are taught in an engaging way about the nuances of running a global business in competitive, high-tech marketplace. Student teams have complete control of managing and operating their own virtual business and making key decisions. | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | Volley-4-Education
Junior Achievements 18th annual volleyball tournament will be held at Volleys on Blairs Ferry Road in Cedar Rapids. At this event teams enjoy at least five games of volleyball as well as a complimentary t-shirt and other promotional giveaways, all while supporting Junior Achievement! This event has grown to be the largest sand volleyball tournament in the Midwest! | |
Time Commitment and Responsibilities of Special Events Committee Members
Committee meetings begin a few months before the respected event and the committee meets at the Junior Achievement office about twice per month for an hour each meeting. This typically works out to be 6-8 meetings total for each event.
Committee members can do all of the following: help plan the event, design logos and t-shirts for the event, organize and gather prizes, brainstorm themes for the event, help out the day of the event, etc.
If you are interested in joining any of the event planning committees, participating in any of the events, volunteering for any of the events, or have any questions please contact Lauren Arnold, larnold@jaeasterniowa.org or (319) 862-1100. |
